CJM Volunteer Recognition Banquet

Our banquet will be April 5th and Chapelgate Presbyterian Church; don't miss it!

Tickets are $15.00 per person; tickets must be purchased or reserved by March 31st.  You can get tickets from CJM Board members; or you can call CJM (410-997-0253) or email (ajm@christianjailministry.org). to reserve your tickets.  You can then pay for and get your ticket at the door on April 5th.

The banquet is a great opportunity to meet those involved in this fruitful ministry to prisoners and to learn why what they do and how God uses them and works in their lives.

It is also a great opportunity to help other in your church understand more about ministry to prisoners and about what is being done in our local jail.  Most of the people in our jail will return to our community.  We want them to come back with Christ in their hearts and with a desire to live godly and productive lives.  You can help make this possible.

Christmas Activities at the HCDC

This year, the Christian Jail Ministry will continue our ministry to inmate children, as well as provide several other planned activities.  Please see our special mailing, by clicking here, for more information.

Training for Volunteers

The next orientation and training session for religious volunteers at HCDC will be 9am to 4pm Saturday, May 3rd (actually we are usually done by 3:30).  Those interested in attending should notify CJM (a phone call or email to CJM with your name, contact information, and note your interest in the training).

CJM Phone: 410-997-0253
CJM Email: cjm@christianjailministry.org

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in ministry to prisoners to learn much more about this method of sharing the good news of Jesus.  Those who attend the orientation and training are not obligated to participate in ministry at the Howard County Detention Center.  Those involved in missions planning or local outreach for their churches could benefit from this training since it would give them the kind of information they need to share with others on their missions and outreach committees.

Chaplain Nichols Speaks at Farm Heritage Days

Chaplain Nichols brought the message at the Gospel church service of Farm Heritage Days, a celebration by the Howard County Antique Farm Machinery Club the last weekend of September.  This was the 12th year that Chaplain Nichols has been the preacher for the Sunday Worship service of the Farm Heritage Days.  This was the second year that the Farm Heritage Days was held at the Living Farm Heritage Museum, a project of the club.

The Christian Jail Ministry website(http://www.christianjailministry.org) has always been a helpful resource for those interested in ministering to prisoners.  Both those who might become part of CJM's ministry at the Howard County Detention Center (HCDC) and those who live away from Maryland find descriptions of CJM programs, resources identified, and other materials helpful.  We get requests for advice and help from people from across the nation.  Many of CJM's supporters may not realize that their contributions not only make possible the ministry at HCDC, but also help ministries elsewhere.

Share your copy of the newsletter with a friend.  We can add anyone to the mailing list for the newsletter who asks you to do so and provides an email address.  You may also go to the Newsletters page and download the current newsletter.

A Speaker for your Group or Church -- help us arrange it

CJM speakers are available to make a presentation to your group or church about ministry to prisoners.  A recent presentation dealt with five topics:

  • Social, humanitarian, spiritual reasons for ministry to prisoners
  • Varieties of prisoners (juvenile, jail, prison, and community)
  • Ministry opportunities (intercession, crime prevention, individual & congregational)
  • Inmate characteristics
  • Does ministry to prisoners make a difference?

To schedule a presentation for your group (social, civic, or spiritual) or for your church, contact CJM (410-997-0253).  We need your help.  More people need to know about CJM.
